Wael el Allouche
“I went to the West and saw Islam, but no Muslims; I got back to the East and saw Muslims, but not Islam.”
― Muhammad Abduh
Here I show you around, or I leave you alone
A selection of pieces of representations, either telling a story or leaving an open space.
Thoughts collected
ideas that perished
experiments that oppress
Wish me luck, you come home safe
Art hardly attracts like gravity
My senses were hard to trust
And now I solely trust them
These documents are telling something,
Or a large pool of code that chose to be a file, a file we understand or a file that is unedited or encrypted for the viewer to be understood

1.
I swear that from Tizi-Wezzu
to the village of Akfadu13
no-one will subjugate me
Rather break and die than bend,
rather be cursed
in a country where rulers are but go-betweens
My brow marked out for exile,
I swear that exile is better
than living under the rule of swine.
2.
The flag is crumpled up by kinglets
who came ranting
and burrowing in our nights
The goldcrest wore trousers
and became a master
claiming to bring justice
The rabbit became a policeman
with a gun in his shoulder strap
allowing himself to punish
The eagle’s wings have been bound,
and he has been condemned to exile
Oh dear God, what a misery!
– Sidi Mohand
Our teachers used to say that one’s application to geometry does to the mind what soap does to a garment. It washes off stains and cleanses it of grease and dirt. The reason for this is that geometry is well arranged and orderly, as we have mentioned.
– Ibn khaldun
May this technology show them how blind they are, for their lenses don’t show truth, but project their despicable truths onto the world, to tell us who is or who isn’t human.
We did not forget and will never forget. We wait and wait and show our humanity, a humanity they never understood. That all is connected and all is temporary. We don’t own the world; we only have it for our lifetime and give it back once we enter our graves…
